Puncture Wounds

This page is dedicated to puncture wounds and treatment of   these.

Statis:- Historical

Horse:- Warmblood Filly

Notes:- This horse was followed up by another farrier after leaving the vet hospital so I do not have any photos of the foot after the wound had healed. Treatment continued for about 8 weeks and the horse has made a full recovery.

This horse was taken to the vet hospital with a street nail puncture that perforated the sole and sensitive tissue. The veterinarian operated and a bar shoe and treatment plate applied. Treatment plates are an relatively easy and cost effective way to treat wounds of this nature when considering the alternative of applying bandages. The plate is applied using four bolts. When treating with the suggested medication and packing the owner simply undoes three bolts, slides the plate across, applies treaGeorgepuncture3tment and re-applies the plate.
