This page features limb deviations and the procedure used to correct these in the foal or to support the limb in the mature horse.
Status:- Historical
Horse:- 6 week old Thorobred foal.
This foal was taken to the veterinarian with a fetlock valgus and rotational deformity in the right front limb and also a rotational deformity in the left front leg, and when viewed from the side the foal showed signs of being buck kneed. The decision was made to perform a periosteal strip on the right front leg and to apply medial extension plates to both feet. This procedure was performed on 27/10/05. Another set of medial extension plates were applied 3 weeks later and removed on 30/11/05. Unfortunately we do not have shots of the extension plates applied in this case. However these pictures show an obvious result.
